The Arbutus

The Arbutus is Blend’s largest rancher, derived from our Rancher 9 model and set into the mountain rock on Salt Spring Island’s west side. Its matte black cedar cladding settles quietly among the arbutus trees, with fifteen-foot accordion doors opening to a full-length deck oriented toward the strait. Inside, a wood-stove insert anchors the living area within a custom hearth that echoes the surrounding rock formations.

A skylit hallway links the entry to the opposite deck with integrated storage along the route. The kitchen features a floating island, custom millwork by Woodshop 506, and a Fisher & Paykel appliance package. Finishes such as custom dining lighting and a skylit shower positioned toward ocean views reinforce the home’s warmth and livability.

"The Arbutus on Salt Spring Island was a meaningful project for us — our largest Rancher 9 to date, and the one that caught the attention of Dwell Magazine. Set against one of the most beautiful sites we've built on, it pushed our customization capabilities in new directions and reinforced what we believe prefab can be when it's done thoughtfully."
